Affidavits Sworn in Brampton — Same Day, $25 + HST

Sworn or affirmed, usually in a few minutes

If you need an affidavit sworn or affirmed in Brampton, you can have it done today. Ink-Credible Notary & Legal Services is run by Sweta Bajaj, a Licensed Paralegal with the Law Society of Ontario and a Certified Notary Public. She commissions affidavits in person at her Brampton office, at your location through mobile service, or over video for eligible documents.

Most people arrive with a form they have already filled in — from a court, a government department, a school, an insurer or a consulate — and simply need the signature witnessed and the jurat completed. That takes a few minutes.

What an affidavit actually is

An affidavit is a written statement of facts that you swear or affirm is true, in front of someone authorised to take it. In Ontario that person is a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits; a notary public can do it too.

The commissioner does not check whether your statement is true. Her job is to confirm who you are, confirm you understand you are swearing to the truth, watch you sign, and complete the jurat. The truth of the contents is yours.

You must sign it in front of her. A document you signed at home cannot be commissioned after the fact. If you have already signed, bring it anyway — in most cases it can simply be re-signed.

You can swear an affidavit on a religious text or affirm it without one. Both carry identical legal weight, and nobody will ask you why you chose one.

The list below is what comes through the door most often, not a closed list. If yours is not on it, call — it is almost certainly something we commission.

What to bring

1. The affidavit itself, complete and unsigned. If you cannot print it, email it ahead and we will print it free.

2. Valid government-issued photo ID — an Ontario driver’s licence, Ontario photo card, Canadian passport, PR card or citizenship card. It must be current, not expired.

3. Any exhibits referred to in the affidavit, so they can be marked and initialled at the same time.

Some courts, consulates and receiving bodies ask for two pieces of ID or for a specific form of identification. If your instructions say so, bring what they ask for.

How it works

1. Call or message us at +1 (647) 684-8559 with the document and when you need it. Same-day appointments are often available.

2. Come in, or we come to you. In person at the Brampton office, mobile at your home, office or hospital, or online by video where the document allows it.

3. Sign in front of the commissioner. Your ID is checked, you swear or affirm, you sign, and the jurat, stamp and signature are completed. You leave with the finished document.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to swear an affidavit? Usually five to ten minutes once you arrive, assuming the document is complete and you have your ID. Longer documents with exhibits take a little more.

Can I get an affidavit sworn the same day in Brampton? Yes — same-day appointments are often available. Call +1 (647) 684-8559 to arrange a time.

Do I need a lawyer to swear an affidavit? No. An affidavit needs to be commissioned by a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits or a notary public, not drafted by a lawyer. If you need help deciding what the affidavit should say, that is legal advice and you should speak to a lawyer.

What is the difference between an affidavit and a statutory declaration? An affidavit is sworn for use in a court proceeding. A statutory declaration is a solemn declaration of truth for everything else — passports, name changes, vehicle transfers, consulates. Both are commissioned the same way and both cost $25 + HST here.

Can I have an affidavit notarized online? Many can be. Eligibility depends on the document and on who is receiving it. See online and virtual service.
