Statutory Declarations Commissioned in Brampton
Declared, not sworn — and used everywhere except court
A statutory declaration is a written statement you solemnly declare to be true, signed in front of a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits or a notary public. Unlike an affidavit, it is used outside a court proceeding — for passport applications, immigration forms, name changes, vehicle transfers, pension certificates and consulate paperwork.
Sweta Bajaj is a Licensed Paralegal with the Law Society of Ontario and a Certified Notary Public, and commissions declarations in Brampton in person, by mobile appointment, or online where the receiving body accepts it.

Frequently asked questions
Is a statutory declaration the same as an affidavit? No. An affidavit is sworn for use in a court proceeding; a statutory declaration is declared for everything else. The process and the $25 + HST fee are the same.
Can you commission a passport form like PPTC 132? Yes. Bring the completed form, your supporting documents and valid photo ID.
Can a statutory declaration be done online? Often, yes — but it depends on whether the organisation receiving it accepts a virtually commissioned document. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and passport services sometimes have their own requirements. Call before you book a virtual appointment for a government form. See online and virtual service.
Do I need to bring a witness? No. The commissioner is the witness. You only need yourself, your form and your ID — unless the form itself calls for an additional witness, which some do.
